Your Travel History

Welcome to the official blog of TRVL 1011. This blog will serve as a forum for idea exchanges as they relate to the travel industry and our class in general.

Our first posting deals with your travels in the past. You can either talk about the different countries you have visited around the world- or- feel free to discuss a country or part of the world that you would like to visit. Tell me your thoughts about the countries you visited or the places you would like to visit. What did/do you find intriguing about them?

Your deadline for receiving credit for your posting is Wednesday, December 6 by 2:30 PM.

I have only visited two countries in my lifetime: Mexico & Australia. I don't generally count Mexico only because it was merely crossing the border, not really visiting the country. Australia, however, was an amazing one month trip.

I decided to study abroad last summer with Johnson & Wales because it was going to allow me to graduate a term early. It was the best decision I could have made. I went with an outstanding professor and the trip opened my mind to other parts of the world.

I visited two different states in Australia: Victoria and Queensland.
I enjoyed Sydney, but it was too much like New York City... and I don't like New York City. Sydney was a very cosmopolitan city and I didn't enjoy the pace of life. I also did not find the people to be very nice. Melbourne, however, I LOVED! The people were super nice and helpful. I remember once instance in particular where I was walking down the street with a map and someone came up to me and offered to help me find the place I was looking for. Melbourne, overall, was very laid back.

In Sydney, we visited several different attractions. The Sydney Zoo, The Sydney Oprah House, toured Olympic Stadium and Hunter Valley just to name a few. In Melbourne, we visited the Victorian Market, had a class at Victoria University and went to see an Aussie Rules football game (which happens to be much more interesting than American football).

Overall, Australia in my opinion, was an awesome experience... and if I ever had the chance to go back I most certainly would!

No worries, mate.

Growing up, my family always went on holiday to the same places: London, Paris, and Italy. Whereas those seem to be the hotspots that people always want to visit, doing them over and over again gets to be a little redundant, hence my decision to come and study here in the states (that was branching out to my family).

I've been lucky enough to visit all the cities I ever wanted to visit in the states from New York to Los Angeles -and even a few random places in between that I would never have thought I'd go to like Joplin, MO and Columbus, OH. However, there are places like Hawaii and Puerto that I've yet to explore.

Still, the only place in the world I've found myself longing to visit is the Carribbean. You'd think it would be easy for me to just hop on a plan being as close as Miami, but unfortunately I found there are bigger obstacles in doing that, being an international student, than I anticipated. Nevertheless, I'm determined not to let that stop me. God willing, in a matter of months I will graduate and be able to leave the country without jeopardizing my re-entry to continue my studies; then i will finally be free to visit Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia and of course Jamaica!

I also hope to visit the Bahamas and Brazil in the near future.

My ultimate dream, though, is to be able to visit all the 57 countries of Africa -just to be able to say I've done that. After that I'd be able to consider myself a true representative of Africa no matter where I go.
