Africa & the Middle East
When we began this course, many of you wrote that you were most looking forward to our discussion of Africa and the Middle East. For this week's blog, tell me why you feel this way? What intrigues you about this part of the world?
Also- on a side note- are any of you interested in travel to the Middle East despite it being such a dangerous part of the world? If so, discuss why you would do so.

I am most interested of learning about Africa because we haven't really talked anything about it. Also, all i've really heard about africa is that there is many starving people and that children are exploited.
Anotherthing i've heard is that there is a huge desert called The sahara and that they have wild animals. I would like to know if there is more than that; more culture, education, religion, etc.
About the Middle East, i believe i would travel there because of the tape we watched in class. The people there seemed to be friendly even though they have many political wars. Their culture seems interesting and it is nice to see that both major religions get along without any discussion.
Out of all the places in the world, not just Africa and the Middle East, I most want to see Dubai. Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates. It has one of the world's highest per capita incomes, mainly because of oil. In recent years, Dubai has grown from a small fishing town on the coast, to the Las Vegas of the Eastern Hemisphere.
The architecture of the city is striking. The city has the world tallest and only 7 star hotel, the incredible Burj al Arab. Tourism is quickly becoming one of top industries, next to oil. The development of islands in the shape of palm trees as well as a map of the world, are attracting the world’s celebrities and billionaires to purchase real estate on them.
I would really want to visit Dubai just to see the growth of it, how modern and young it is, and to experience complete opulence. I think Dubai is a great city to visit if you are nervous about going to the Middle East because of culture shock. It is a city with many western influences and therefore would be a good way to ease yourself into complete Middle Eastern culture. That part of the world is so different from what we are used to. That, for me, is the attraction and Dubai, for me, is the destination.
What intrigues me the most about Africa I would say the continent. This part of the world has more countries than the United States have to visit. While growing up I always hear people talking about before they die, they want to visit the mother land of even lay to rest there. I never quite understood what they were talking about, but has I got older I realize the mean behind the phrase. Not all parts of Africa are corrupt, just like not all part of the United State is corrupt. I interpret the term “Mother Land” has somewhere you can go and feel safe and relaxed just as how I would feel when my own mother is neutering me. When I was in high school I had several friends who were from Africa Tanzania, Nigeria and Kenya and they all spoke nothing, but goodness about their country despite half the population is dieing from a deadly disease. The country that I want to visit the most is Tanzanian.
Tanzania has a lot of mountains and the most popular one is Kilimanjaro it is one of the highest mountains in the world and I would love to take a five day trip up that mountain.
After watching the tape on the Middle East I would definitely take a trip there. Not only that, last week at work I meet a couple of young guys my age and they were from Lebanon they actually from the capital which is Beirut. I ask them how safe it is to travel to their country and they told me that the American media make things seems worse than they are. “Anyone can travel to the country and have a wonderful time, yes we have wars with our neighbors but that doesn’t stop tourist from going there.” And I believed what they were saying so I am looking forward to taking a trip to the Middle East.
What fascinates me about the middle east is the city of Dubai, where the Burj Al Arab, the worlds best hotel in the world is located. I have also wanted to learn more about the culture, and be able to see the cities amazing beach resorts, and incredibly high tech buildings. I have heard that Dubai emcompasses an extremely diverse architecture and culture that ranges from traditional Arab houses to magnificent modern towers of steel and glass thats interests me alot.
I would definitely visit the Middle East if I had the chance just to be able to see the amazing view of the city, shop duty free in Deira, which is the business and commercial heart of the city and home to the best shopping. I would also enjoy the dunes of the middle east culture with stunning high rise hotels overlooking pristine beaches and the warm turqouise waters of the Arabian Gulf.
I am so interesting to learn more about Africa and the Middle East because is a totally different place. Africa and the Middle East has a different culture and i really want in a near future to have the opportunity to go to a place that has different taste of culture. Its beautiful to see how people can be so different and so similar at the same time.
I'll also like to go to Africa because of the while life they have towards the animals. I would like to be able to see and learn more about the animals in the continent.
Africa is different; the people, animal, culture, music, artist, its a different world, thats why i would love to go to africa and the middle east for the most part.
PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE, AND THE PEOPLE ARE SO NICE.
