Videos

One of the great things about a geography course is that it enables us to watch many videos. Doing so is probably much more effective than giving a lecture or doing a Power Point presentation.

I'm not sure whether or not you noticed, but I tried to show a variety of videos presented by a variety of people from different demographic backgrounds. Not only did this provide more insight into the areas we studied, but I hoped that the different people doing the traveling would provide you with a host of different perspectives.

On that note, of all the videos you saw in this course, which do you feel was the most memorable? Why do you feel that way? Conversely, which video was the least memorable and why?

I look forward to your responses.

See you in cyberspace!

In class we I have enjoyed watching all the videos that the professor has shown us. The one that I thought it was great and memorable was the one from Australia.
Australia had a lot of interesting places and a lot of activities to do and enjoy yourself. Fun things to do like going to the beach, resorts , zoo, and a lot of different places where you can feel good.
The least memorable video that we saw, was one of the Africa one. Africa is beautiful but its a places where you go just for you to go and help poor people basically. You can't enjoy yourself and have a nice vacation in Africa, just relaxing and doing fun things.
That's what I think about the videos that we have seen in the class!!

To me the most fascinating video we watched in class was the "not your average travel guide" one about China. Seeing sides of Shanghai that i dont usually see like the nightlife seals the deal on my indecisiveness. I definitely want to visit Shanghai now. I espicially liked the footage of the people doing martial arts early in the morning beside the lagoon that virtually had ancient Shanghai on one side of it and modern architeture and skyscrapers on the other side.
Because I am more drawn to modern characteristics in a city, I wasnt quite taken with a lot of the videos that emphasized more of the outdoorsy activities that the different countries had to offer. Shanghai was by far my favorite.

Without a doubt, the use of the various videos in class was a very effective, insightful, and interesting means of feeding us the information. I found it very helpful to have the different and unique places presented by even more unique and different people. The tour guides certainly gave each geographic area a distinct twist.

Of all the videos viewed throughout the course of the class, the one that remains most memorable for me is the one on Amsterdam. The main reason it stuck in my head is because of the tour guide in the video. The guide, a man returning to Amsterdam years after his first trip there as a college student, provides previous knowledge on the country, as well as bringing us through his current experience. He also contributes a very funny sense of humor at times, which is particularly appropriate towards the handful of "unique" things Amsterdam is well-known for.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the video that was least memorable was the one on Africa with the Grandmothers. The reason I wasn't much of a fan of it is the same reason why I liked the Amsterdam video so much; the guides. Do not get me wrong, grandmothers are wonderful people. However, the women in the video just didnt do enough or visit the right places to interest me and get me excited about Africa.

From all of the videos we watched in class, the one I enjoyed the most was the one from Amsterdam. I thought that the tour guide who was talking about the place was really enthusiastic and showed different aspects of Amsterdam. He showed Anne Frank's house as well as the Red Light District which are two completely different things that might interest different groups of people. Also, I really liked the video with the girl who visited Dubai because everything she showed seemed really cool and different from everything here in The United States.
I was really surprised to see how the Urban style of dressing and the rapping had got to The Middle East. I would have never imagined people rapping in their language, especially because it sounds very strange to me.
One of the videos that I really hated was the one with the grannies in Africa. That video did not show me much about Africa. It was really mostly about the old ladies. The video was so boring that I thought I was going to die.
Hopefully we never get to see any more videos like that, but more like the ones of Amsterdam, The Middle East and Australia.

The most memorable video for me is also the one of the guy in Amsterdam. I liked that one the most because he seemed to be youthful, adventurous and it was quite humorous. Compared to the other travelers I think I related to him more. He visited some interesting places such as the coffee shops, Anne Frank’s house and the Red Light District. It was also very informative; he spoke to the locals and identified the best ways to get around the city.

As for the least memorable one, I guess that would have to be the Grandma’s on Safari. I barely remember what part of Africa they were or what they did. I think this was mainly because of the generational gap. The things they did were not of interest to me at all. I mean come on, who wants to see Grandma’s on safari or maybe it was a mental thing. Maybe as soon as I heard they were Granny’s I had already thought negative of it and could not enjoy it after that. Either way, this was the least memorable video for me.

We have watched many video in class in these ten weeks that were really interesting so far, but the on that has really interested me and the most memorable was Australia and the Middle East.
I feel like Australia was memorable to me because it was the funnies place that I’ve seen in all the videos. Australia has the most beautiful beaches and I found out that there a different of weather from the U.S. The different is that the weather is the opposite from ours. Also that, Australia was founded as a prison colony, where the British put their prisoners. That’s pretty interesting and memorable to me.
I also felt that the Middle East was memorable to me because how different and dangerous each country can be. I would be too scared to visit the Middle East. I found out that for tourist we have watch which part of the middle east one goes because some part are to dangerous like I said. The transportation there is sort of like my country with taxis, if they are going the way you’re going then they would take u if not then u have to wait for the next one. Also, the roads are not safe; the drives don’t respect the roads or the lights
My least memorable, I would like to say its New Zealand. I feel like this video it was pretty but it didn’t get my intention. I got bored of watching the video but I know if I would visit New Zealand I would like it.
